This site celebrates the history of West Calder village and the surrounding area.
"Very interesting! Just out of the blue one day I thought I would try searching West Calder. My great, great grandfather John Muir, b. June 20 1829, lived on a farm called Blockbrae in the parish of West Calder in the county of Edinburgh, Scotland. He immigrated to Canada in 1854 and farmed near Port Elgin, Ontario. He was
killed by a falling tree April, 1st 1863. I have visited his resting place in Port Elgin.
I would love to visit Scotland some day but it is unlikely I will get that chance."
Don Muir, Ontario, Canada
